The openable roof in Friends Arena is constructed with the help of Tikab.
Tikab system designed the machinery that opens and closes the roof. We have also designed lifting corner sections on the stands to allow the entry of larger vehicles onto the pitch. These grandstand sections are made of steel and are operated hydraulically.
In order for the roof to remain tight when closed, complex sealing structures must be in place between the fixed and moving parts of the roof. This is also designed by Tikab. The design placed very high demands on our designers as the relatively rough building tolerance had to be bridged over and finished completely tight under a variety of scenarios. Normal temperature movements alone will cause gaps in the structure of several centimetres. The solution was a combination of resilient sheets and rubber profiles weighing a total of 25 tonnes.
In order to keep the stands comfortable and to prevent devoted fans from jumping the stands in self-oscillation, we have performed comfort analyses based on dynamic calculation results from different "jumping configurations".
